one thing lead to another…

While doing some work at work I walked into a trap.

Let me start from the beginning:

It was a beautiful day, I had just fixed all my troubles with OpenVPN and heartbeat and all that was left was a little scripting, so I whipped out vim and started to python my way through things when I [...]

RFKiller instincts…

… I have, but I cannot put them to use:

[asmw@901]> ls -l /dev/rfkill
crw-rw—- 1 root root 10, 59 2009-08-11 12:27 /dev/rfkill

They took my rights!
Possible solutions:

Quick-And-Dirty:Put something like “ chgrp rfkill /dev/rfkill’” in rc.local.
Using udev: echo ‘KERNEL==”rfkill”, GROUP=”rfkill”‘ >> /etc/udev/rules.d/99-rfkill.rules

Prerequisite for both solutions is, of course, an existing rfkill group.

Somewhat related a little python code [...]

Highly available…

Today I literally skipped a heartbeat…
…on purpose, while testing the hearbeat setup for some OpenVPN servers.

The OpenVPN server of the RWTH Aachen university is exactly that. _ONE_ server. When it goes down, there is no OpenVPN anymore.
Bah, eaaaasy! There’s so many computers in this university, we’ll just get a second one and let them work [...]

Free at last.

Now it’s only the medicine exam left.
Poor little med exam, all alone now.
I beat the others.
How you feel now, huh?
Not so tough anymore, huh?

Actually still scary, but meh, whatcha gonna [...]

I AM flabbergasted

This totally awesome post is sooooo relevant to the stuff I have to absolutely learn because it somehow includes the mention of an AM radio.

I wonder what I’d do if i got alzheimers on top…

Well, I’d probably do the same thing I do now…

Forget it, then reset it.

Diversity? We won’t have any of that here!

…and that’s not even all. We also despise softleds. Ever since the transplantation my router had severe trouble producing a decent signal.

I sifted through mountains of information regarding issues with atheros cards in WL-500gps and tried everything.

Switching antenna connectors from main to aux, and setting diversity, txantenna and rxantenna for the madwifi driver did improve [...]
